    • AIRTIME
    • Open to all artists and final year art students, AIRTIME are free, practical and inspiring events providing advice, networking and cameraderie. Over 1000 artists across England and Wales have participated. Come along for information on funding, insurance, professional development as well as networking and collaborations.       Lyric Lounge

      The Lyric Lounge is a vibrant spoken word festival bringing international artists to share the stage with participants and local performers in a spectacular celebration of lyrical prose, music and rhyme.

      Travelling round the region from Leicester to Derby, Nottingham, Loughborough Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland - The Lyric Lounge arrives in Northampton on 17 September when the Lounge will be open all day for lyrical festivities.

      Work on your writing skills with workshops from top class poets and performers Get up on the Open Mic first timers welcome Be wowed by performances of local young writers alongside established artists Enjoy a free lunch while you listen to poetic rhymes during Lyrical Lunchtimes

      11am - workshops include badge making, writing and the ukulele tea party with Sara Spade - learn to sing and play in under an hour with the ukulele lady (aka sara spade). pre-booking essential children over 10 welcome - ukulele's supplied.

      1 -3pm Lyrical Lunchtime - open mic with performances from Jessica Mayhew and Maria Taylor compered by Sara Spade Book an appraisal of your work and lunch with internationally acclaimed poet and performer Jean Breeze. Her published works ponder social and political issues, as well as her own experience of mental health. Her latest book, Cutting a Lime, by Bloodaxe Books is out now

      3 -5pm Local talent showcases including an intriguing spoken word trail from Fishmarket to the Royal & Derngate

      5-6pm Performances by the brilliant Mark Gwynne Jones with his passionate, captivating and slightly mad, mind-altering poetry and Lyric Lounge patron Jean 'Binta' Breeze

      7-9pm Charity Shop DJ takeover party at Fishmarket - celebrating equality through music and the power of people, dialogue and communication with fast rising star and champion of poetry for a new generation, Deborah 'Debris' Stevenson .

      9-11.30pm Lyric Lounge Afterparty with DJ pH and the Love Poets

      Lyric Lounge Northamptonshire is part of Igniting Ambition, the East Midlands' contribution to the Cultural Olympiad. The Lyric Lounge is a Writing East Midlands project. It has been artistically developed by Lydia Towsey. It is supported by MLA Renaissance, Arts Council England, Igniting Ambition, Legacy Trust UK with further support from Northamptonshire County Council, the Royal and Derngate Theatre and The Core at Corby Cube.

    • The Great Fishmarket Geocaching Race
    • Find as many geocaches as you can between 26 August and 1 September. Geocaching is a worldwide game using GPS to find hidden caches. To join in, visit geocaching.com, sign up for a geocaching account, search for the caches on the website, grab your gps unit and sturdy boots and go! Log all of your finds on your geocaching.com account, it's easy! To register that you are taking part in our race, email catherine@northamptonarts.org to let us know your Geocaching name and the grand total you find over the race days!     • SATURDAY CRAFT WORKSHOPS

      A series of craft-based workshops on Saturdays as part of Census and the art of capturing data. Explore your identity, make a statement, create an alter ego!

      All workshops are £5 and include materials and instruction. Book for any three workshops and get the fourth one FREE! All ages are welcome - under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.

      Workshops will take approx. 1 hour and will begin at staggered 30 min intervals. Book in advance at The Nook cafe or call 01604 639090.

    • Use a whole selection of gorgeous threads, fabric and yarn to create a woven cuff then embellish it with a hand-stamped copper ID tag. Two interesting and simple techniques to create a reallly beautiful finished piece.
