Long Weekend - Holiday Film Screening
4pm-midnight

Day two of our August Bank Holiday celebrations comprises and afternoon and evening of holiday themed films in the glorious setting of the Fishmarket garden. Unless of course it rains in which case we'll be in the cafe!

4:30pm
LES VACANCES DE MONSIEUR HULOT (1953)
Dir: Jaques Tati
Running Time: 114Mins
Suitable for all

One of Jacques Tati's most famous films Les Vacances introduced the pipe-smoking, well-meaning but clumsy character of M. Hulot, who appears in a number of Tati's subsequent films.

Les Vacances follows the adventures of M. Hulot (played by Tati himself) as he spends the mandatory August vacation at a beach resort. With a jazzy sound track and goofy comedic sound effects the film has an old fashioned charm with all the silly, beautiful and poetic touches that made Tati famous. A classic!

7pm
ROMAN HOLIDAY (1953)
Dir: William Wyler
Running Time: 118Mins
Suitable for all

Audrey Hepburn is a royal princess on a widely publicized tour of several European capitals, including Rome. One night, she rebels against the strenuous demands of her official duties, where every minute of her time is scheduled, shins down the drain pipe and escapes into Rome.

She finds herself caught in a whirlwind romance with reporter Jo Bradley (Gregory Peck) who in the space of a few days shows her what it is to be free, allowing her the irresistible taste of a life she has never known. Stylish, witty and marvelous!

9:30pm
HOTEL CHEVALIER (2007)
Dir: Wes Anderson
Running Time: 13mins
Contains some nudity.

This short film is a prequal to Anderson's most recent feature The Darjeeling Ltd and stars Jason Shwartzman and Natalie Portman as reunited lovers.

The simple dialogue, sumptuous colour and powerful use of Peter Sartsgards "Where do you go to my lovely?" makes this a perfect example of Anderson's genius.

10pm
LOST IN TRANSLATION (2007)
Dir: Sophia Coppola
Running Time:102 Mins
Suitable for all

Coppola's Oscar Winning second feature is an stunning, atmospheic love letter to Japan and rooted in the particular friendship that develops between lost 20 something Charlotte (Scarlet Johanssen) and washed up actor Bob Harris (Bill Murray). Over the course of a few days they bring light to eachothers drifting lives.
