Jeffery Lewis
+ Peggy Sue and The Pirates, The Wave Pictures and Mountain Parade
Tue 09 Sep 2008
Jeffery Lewis is a pretty great guy. From his NYC anti-folk roots to his sticker smeared, beat up guitar Jeff and has band have achieved some significant notariety in alt music circles while avoiding nasty corperate clutches.
Jeffery's songs tell tales of everything from love accidently lost to the best way to dispatch a zombie. At his gentle best his songs are the best and least hokey kind of self help. He knows how to rock out though and when he does it's a splendid mess.
To get initiated I would recommend buying IT'S THE ONES WHO'VE CRACKED THAT THE LIGHT SHINES THROUGH, released through Rough Trade in 2003.
Jeffery also draws comic books and if we're lucky he'll show one of his low budget videos which involve him standing on a box and turning the pages while he sings us the song of
"The Story of the Fall" or "The History of Communism".

Also in support we are deligheted to welcome THE WAVE PICTURES. They look back a little to kitchen sink dramas and 60's pop but have produced an utterly prolific raft of wonderful guitar tunes with some of the finest lyrics going.
Buy one of their records today and you will not be disappointed.

ALSO NEW ADDITION TO THE BILL
Peggy Sue and The Pirates
"Peggy Sue & The Pirates are Rosa Rex and Katy Klaw, two rowdy Regina Spektors on stools. They’re a pair of dames with voices like entwined slithers of shiny silver and spun gold, a knack for acoustic scuffle-skiffle and a shared guitar called Stud." Leonie Cooper - Lipster

Quietly nudging things into touch will be THE MOUNTAIN PARADE. They play Ukulele's and violins and whisper sweet, folky nothings. Delightful.
